At American Child, we believe in giving your child a variety of experiences and in providing a rich, early childhood education that will give them a self confident and independent outlook. That being said, we have an absolute commitment to developing early reading and literacy skills.
The Importance of Early Reading
Early reading skills are an absolute focus at American Child. We have found over the years that successful reading skills are the most consistent indicator of future academic success and this has been shown in multiple studies and reports from academic experts.
The U.S. Dept. of Education reports that “Research shows that children who can read well in the early grades are far more successful in later years; and those who fall behind often stay behind when it comes to academic achievement”
In fact, a recent University of Virginia study concluded that, “if a child is not reading on grade level by the end of the first grade, they have only a 1 in 10 chance of ever achieving even grade level proficiency.”
We believe it is possible to give children exposure to these skills while also providing fun, enriching experiences in math, science, music, and art with plenty of free play and outdoor time thrown in.
